Resume tips that pass ATS for freshers (without the gimmicks)
17 May 2026 · Ixyle Team
An ATS is not magic and it is not your enemy — it is a keyword and structure parser. Freshers lose here for avoidable reasons: a clever two-column layout the parser mangles, missing keywords from the job description, or projects described by what they were instead of what you did.
The fixes that matter most
- Use a single-column, standard-section layout (Education, Skills, Projects, Experience). Skip text inside images or headers.
- Mirror the language of the job description — if it says 'REST APIs', don't only write 'web services'.
- Describe projects with action + result: 'built X using Y, which did Z', not 'a project on Y'.
- Quantify honestly where you can; never invent numbers.
Then check it against a real role
Once the structure is clean, the highest-leverage step is a line-by-line gap check against an actual job description — the words you're missing are usually the words the filter is scanning for.
