Strategy & Consulting runs case interviews; Technology runs services-style.

Interview philosophy

How Accenture actually interviews

Accenture's lateral interviews differ noticeably by Practice — the four Services (Strategy & Consulting, Song, Technology, Operations) hire on distinct loops:

- **Strategy & Consulting** runs a near-classic case-interview loop — typically 3 case-style rounds (often eliminating each round), with strong weight on structured thinking, hypothesis-led problem solving, and quant fluency. Closer to MBB-lite than to typical IT services. - **Technology / Song / Operations** lateral runs a more standard services-style loop: an online assessment (sometimes skipped for experienced roles), 1-2 technical rounds, and 1-2 behavioural / HR rounds. Technology has SAP / Salesforce / Cloud / AI / Data sub-tracks each with its own depth bar.

Across all practices, Accenture is meaningfully more behaviourally focused than peer IT services — interviewers explicitly probe values, inclusion, and culture-fit. STAR-format answers are expected on collaboration, conflict, ownership, and client-handling. Coding is uncommon in lateral Technology rounds for non-engineering tracks but present for software engineering and Cloud / Data roles.

HR / final-fitment is usually the comp + willingness conversation; comp is typically negotiated late. Notice period, location, and onsite-willingness matter, but Accenture is more hybrid-flexible than peer IT services on location preference.

"Selected" at Accenture lateral = behavioural maturity (STAR fluency + values fit) + practice-appropriate technical / case depth + crisp client-outcome framing + collaboration signals + reasonable CTC ask. Behavioural calibration is genuinely heavy — interviewers score on values fit, not just technical.
Cultural pillars

What they're measuring you on, beyond the right answer

The values interviewers probe for. Each pillar is what they ask about, plus how they ask it.

Client Value Creation

Outcome-led engagement; every interaction is judged by what changed for the client. Accenture's #1 stated value.

How they probe · What was the measurable client outcome of your last delivery? Have you reframed scope to deliver more value?

One Global Network

Mobilising the right people from anywhere in Accenture's 779K-strong global network — collaboration across geographies and practices is core.

How they probe · Have you worked across time zones / geographies? How do you collaborate with colleagues in 3+ countries?

Respect for the Individual

Treat every person — colleagues, clients, partners — with respect. Behavioural / inclusion fit is interviewed for explicitly.

How they probe · Describe a disagreement on a diverse team. How did you handle it?

Best People

Continuous learning, certifications, and high bar — Accenture promoted ~97K people in FY25 and grew its specialised AI/data workforce to ~77K.

How they probe · Which Accenture-relevant certifications have you done in the last 12 months? How do you keep learning?

Integrity & Stewardship

Ethical conduct + building a stronger company for the future. Both are part of the six values.

How they probe · Walk me through a time you raised an ethical concern internally. How did it land?

Real questions, by round type

What candidates were actually asked

Curated from interview reports and company write-ups. Practise against any of these in a live mock.

Strategy Consulting Lateral

case

  • An Indian QSR brand wants to grow revenue 30% in 12 months. Walk me through how you'd approach it.
  • A B2B SaaS client's churn jumped 4 pts last quarter. Diagnose.
  • Estimate the market size for EV chargers in tier-2 Indian cities.
  • A bank wants to launch an embedded-finance product. Frame the strategy.

Behavioral

  • Why Accenture S&C over MBB / a Big-4 / a boutique?
  • Tell me about your most analytically demanding project to date.
  • Describe leading a workstream when you had no formal authority.

Technology Sde Lateral

Technical

  • Walk me through your most complex project — architecture and your role.
  • Java/.NET/Python: explain runtime memory management and a real OOM/leak you debugged.
  • REST API best practices — versioning, idempotency, error semantics.
  • Cloud: how is your prod app deployed on Azure / AWS / GCP? Walk me through it.
  • SQL: write window-function queries on a transactions table.
  • Salesforce / SAP / ServiceNow track: deep-dive your last config + custom-dev story.
  • Design patterns: which have you used in prod? Show me a class diagram.

Behavioral

  • Tell me about a time you collaborated across 3+ time zones.
  • Describe a disagreement with a senior on a technical choice.
  • Walk me through a delivery slip you communicated to a client.
  • Why Accenture, and why now?
  • Tell me about a time you stewarded an inclusive decision.

willingness

  • Open to relocate to Bengaluru / Hyderabad / Pune / Mumbai / Chennai / Gurgaon?
  • Open to onsite (US / UK / EU / Australia) deputation?
  • Hybrid model — comfortable with the in-office days policy?
  • Notice period and buy-out feasibility?

Data Ai Lateral

Technical

  • SQL: write a 7-day rolling cohort retention query.
  • Spark: how do you debug skewed joins / OOMs?
  • Explain bias-variance trade-off with a project example.
  • How do you ship an ML model to production? Walk through the MLOps stack.
  • Cloud data: data lake vs warehouse vs lakehouse — when do you pick which?

Behavioral

  • Describe a data-quality / model-drift incident you owned.

Operations Lateral

domain

  • Walk me through your transition methodology for a process you on-boarded.
  • How do you balance quality vs SLA on a high-volume process?
  • What automation has your process adopted — RPA, IDP, GenAI? Outcomes?

Behavioral

  • Tell me about an SLA miss you owned end to end.
What rejects you · what advances you

The two patterns that decide every loop

Red flags

  • Disrespectful or non-inclusive language toward colleagues / clients.
  • Inability to answer behavioural questions in STAR format — Accenture interviews are explicitly behavioural.
  • Inability to defend a project on your own CV.
  • Frequent job-hopping (avg tenure < 1 year).
  • Bad-mouthing previous employer.
  • Aggressive CTC negotiation in technical / case rounds.
  • Treating values / inclusion questions as filler.
  • Inflexibility on hybrid-office days, relocation, or onsite.
  • Notice period > 90 days with no buy-out plan.

Advance signals

  • Crisp STAR-format behavioural answers — clearly trained / lived.
  • Demonstrable cross-geography collaboration ('One Global Network').
  • Visible certifications (AWS / Azure / Salesforce / SAP / Snowflake / GCP / AI specialisations).
  • Stable employment history with measurable client outcomes.
  • Explicit reflection on inclusion / respect in past team stories.
  • For S&C: structured case answer, not a free-form narrative.
  • For Technology: deep stack fluency + ability to talk client outcome, not just code.
  • Reasonable CTC ask (25-40% hike on current; higher for hot skills).

Don't do

  • Skip STAR — answer behavioural questions in narrative; you'll be marked down.
  • Open with CTC negotiation — wait for HR / final round.
  • Mention competing offers as leverage in case / technical rounds.
  • Push for ESOPs / equity — Accenture lateral comp is base + variable + RSU at very senior bands only.
  • Bad-mouth your previous employer.
  • Show non-inclusive language — values rounds catch this.
  • Get fuzzy on resume projects — interviewers cross-examine.
  • For S&C: ramble through a case without structuring upfront.

Accenture pays among the highest in the Indian IT-services tier and above-peer in S&C. Strategy & Consulting senior bands include meaningful bonus / RSU; pure Technology bands rely more on base + variable. Hot-skill switches (Snowflake, Salesforce CPQ, AWS architects, GenAI specialists, MLOps, SAP S/4HANA) command 40-60% switch hikes. Hybrid flexibility + global mobility (US / UK / Europe / SEA) is a real compensation lever via project deputations.
