Five Habits behavioural lens. Velocity / FullStride track for top performers.

Interview philosophy

How Wipro actually interviews

Wipro lateral interviews are pragmatic and delivery-focused. The loop is typically lighter than Infosys (often 2 technical + 1 management/HR for most roles) and the depth-vs-breadth balance leans more on "can this person hit the ground running on a billable engagement" than on CS fundamentals. Interviewers — frequently delivery managers and technical architects — will spend substantial time on your project deep-dive and the specific stack / tools you used.

Under Rishad Premji's culture push (the "Five Habits" + a Chief Culture Officer at SVP level), behavioural and values-based probes have become more visible in lateral interviews — expect at least one explicit scenario-based question on respect / responsiveness / communication. Wipro's Velocity / Topcoder / FullStride and high-end technology tracks (Cyber, Cloud, Data) have a distinctly higher technical bar and may include a coding round.

HR is heavy on willingness signals (location, shift, vertical, notice period), comp fitment, and stability. Wipro is sensitive to recent attrition history and has, in 2024-2025, tightened on candidates with short stints. A clean reason for leaving and a stable history are explicit positives.

"Selected" at Wipro lateral = clean project deep-dive + stack-relevant technical depth + visible expression of the Five Habits in scenarios + flexibility + stable history + reasonable CTC ask.
Cultural pillars

What they're measuring you on, beyond the right answer

The values interviewers probe for. Each pillar is what they ask about, plus how they ask it.

Spirit of Wipro

The bedrock identity — 'Be passionate about clients' success', 'Treat each person with respect', 'Be global and responsible', 'Unyielding integrity in everything we do'.

How they probe · Tell me about a time you went above contractual scope for a client. How do you handle integrity in ambiguous situations?

Being Respectful (Habit 1)

Treat every colleague, client, and partner with respect — irrespective of seniority or geography.

How they probe · Describe a disagreement with a senior. How did you frame your pushback?

Being Responsive (Habit 2)

Speed of acknowledgment and follow-through — clients and colleagues should never be left waiting.

How they probe · How do you manage your inbox / Slack / Teams when juggling 4+ stakeholders?

Always Communicating (Habit 3)

Proactive, clear status updates — silence is the enemy of trust in delivery.

How they probe · Walk me through how you communicate when a delivery is going to slip.

Demonstrating Stewardship & Building Trust (Habits 4 & 5)

Treat company resources, client data, and people as something you steward. Trust is built through consistency.

How they probe · Tell me about a time you protected a client's interest at short-term cost to your own team.

Real questions, by round type

What candidates were actually asked

Curated from interview reports and company write-ups. Practise against any of these in a live mock.

Sde Lateral

Technical

  • Walk me through your most recent end-to-end delivery.
  • Java/.NET/Python: explain how memory is managed in your runtime.
  • Difference between primary key and unique key — and a scenario for each.
  • Explain SOLID principles with examples from your project.
  • REST API best practices — version-handling, idempotency, error envelope.
  • Have you used a CI/CD pipeline? Walk me through your deploy flow.
  • What's the difference between unit and integration tests in your project?
  • Write SQL: top 3 customers per region by revenue this quarter.

Behavioral

  • Describe a time you communicated a delivery slip to a client.
  • Tell me about a colleague disagreement you resolved.
  • How do you ensure responsiveness when juggling multiple stakeholders?
  • Why are you leaving your current company?
  • Walk me through a time you owned an end-to-end production issue.

willingness

  • Are you open to relocate to Bengaluru / Hyderabad / Pune / Chennai?
  • Comfortable with rotational / night shifts if engagement requires it?
  • Are you willing to deploy onsite (US / UK / Europe / Australia / GCC)?
  • What is your notice period and is buy-out possible?

Velocity Or Fullstride Lateral

Coding

  • Detect a cycle in a linked list.
  • Find missing number in 1..N array.
  • Subarray sum equals K.
  • Stream median (running median).

System design

  • Design a rate limiter (token bucket vs leaky bucket).
  • Design an order-management system for an e-commerce client.

Domain Consultant Lateral

domain

  • BFSI: explain the lending lifecycle from origination to collections.
  • Energy: smart metering data — what's the analytics use case?
  • Healthcare: payer vs provider workflow; HIPAA in code.

Behavioral

  • Describe a time the client added scope late. How did you protect the timeline?
What rejects you · what advances you

The two patterns that decide every loop

Red flags

  • Frequent job-hopping (avg tenure < 1 year) — Wipro has tightened on this.
  • Inflexibility on relocation / shift / vertical.
  • Inability to explain a project on your own CV.
  • Disrespectful tone in answers (e.g., dismissing junior teammates) — directly conflicts with Habit 1.
  • Bad-mouthing previous employer.
  • Aggressive CTC negotiation in technical rounds.
  • Plans for MBA / abroad-studies in <12 months.
  • Notice period > 90 days with no buy-out plan.
  • Vague answers on 'why are you leaving'.

Advance signals

  • Crisp project deep-dive with measurable client outcome.
  • Visible application of the Five Habits (e.g., proactive escalation stories).
  • Stable employment history (avg tenure > 2 years).
  • Comfortable across 2+ stacks.
  • Domain depth in a Wipro vertical (BFSI, Energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail).
  • Open to onsite rotation.
  • Reasonable CTC ask (25-35% hike on current).
  • Demonstrated ownership of incidents / RCAs.

Don't do

  • Open with CTC negotiation — wait for HR.
  • Show inflexibility on relocation / shift / vertical.
  • Bad-mouth your previous company or manager.
  • Mention competing offers as leverage in technical rounds.
  • Push for ESOPs / equity — Wipro lateral comp is base + variable; RSU only at senior bands.
  • Skim over the values / Five Habits questions — interviewers calibrate on these.
  • Get fuzzy on resume projects — you will be cross-examined.

Velocity / Topcoder / FullStride / Cyber Defense Centre lateral hires can pull 18-30 LPA at 4-6 yrs experience. RSU appears only at senior bands. Variable pay typically 8-12% of base. Onsite (US / UK / Australia / GCC) deputation effectively multiplies take-home via per-diem. Joining bonus rare except for hot-skill switches (Salesforce, AWS / Azure architects, SAP S/4HANA, Cyber).
